Olivia de Havilland

Olivia Mary de Havilland was born in Tokyo, Japan on July 1, 1916. Her father was a British patent attorney and her mother was an actress. Olivia has one sister, Joan de Beauvoir de Havilland or better known as Joan Fontaine. Joan was born in October of 1917. Director Max Reinhardt discovered Olivia and Cast her in his production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Olivia then signed a 7 year contract with Warner Brothers. When Olivia heard about the auditions for Gone With The Wind, she wanted the part of Melanie while all the other starletts in Hollywood wanted the role of Scarlett. However, Warner Brothers did not lend out their stars. Olivia made a personal plea to Jack Warner's wife. She signed on for Melanie on January 13, 1939. Olivia and Hattie McDaniel were nominated for Best Supporting Actresses for Gone With The Wind. Hattie received the Oscar.
Olivia married Marcus Goodrich in 1946 and had one son. They divorced in 1953. Olivia won her first Oscar for "To Each His Own" and another one for "The Heiress." In 1955, she married Pierre Galante and had one daughter. She won a Golden Blobe for here performance in "Anastasia: The Mystery of Anna."
Olivia currently lives in Paris and is the only survivng member of the primary cast.
